Obituary for Luther M. Hensley Luther M. “Luke” Hensley, 70, of St. Albans born June 17, 1948, passed away October 29, 2018 after a long illness. Luther was a loving husband to Elsie Hensley, whom he has 4 children with. Elsie sadly lost her battle with cancer and Luke stood by her from day one.
He later met and married his second wife Patty Hensley who brought four children into the family. He also helped raised his grandson Marty as his own. Sadly Patty passed away with fibrosis.
He loved and cared for her through it all. Luther was known for his big heart, a wonderful father who would shut a job site down if one of the kids needed anything from diapers, medication, even food from McD’s. He was selfless, hardworking, giving and kind hearted.
Luther retired from the City of St. Albans and owned & operated a few businesses, Hensley Mobile Home Movers, Route 60 tire shop, Cool Hand Luke Used Auto Parts and Hensley Towing’s. Luther was preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Lucy Hensley; 2 brothers and 3 sisters; grandson, Steven. He is survived by his children and stepchildren, sons, William H. (Stephanie) of South Charleston, Luther H. (Eva) of Poca, James H. (Jessica) of St. Albans; daughter, Patricia H. (James) of Dunbar;, Stepdaughters, Sherrie C. (Steve), Brenda H.; stepsons, Larry W. and Dan W. all of St. Albans; brother, Chester H. (Rhoda) of St. Albans.
Also surviving are 33 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. A special thank you to his friend Lilly, who always made his day with visits and calls. Thank you to his special aid Nancy, Mary and special nurse Marci, also thank you to the following in no special order Wanda, Scotty, Michelle, Carol Sue, Kim, Ben, and Kristy Curry.
We would like to thank you all for making him comfortable, happy and loved. For understanding that as his children, we didn’t want anything less than perfect care for a man who took perfect care of so many. Funeral service will be held at 2:00pm Thursday, November 8, 2018 at Bartlett-Chapman Funeral Home, St. Albans with Pastor John Gillenwater officiating.
Burial will be in Teays Hill Cemetery, St. Albans. Friends may call one hour prior to the funeral service. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to Cure PSP, Inc., In Memory of Luther M.
