Obituary for Jack William Kessler Jack William Kessler, 92 of Hurricane passed away on December 18, 2018. He was retired from 34 years at Union Carbide and was an original member of the St. Timothy in The Valley congregation. During his career he also had been very active outside the plant and was instrumental in bringing library services to Putnam County as the President of the Putnam County Library Board for 45 years, Commissioner on the State Board for 4 years, and awarded many honors such as the Mayo Lester Award, as well as a Resolution for Service from Putnam County.

He was also a member of the Putnam County Kiwanis, volunteered at the Hurricane community cupboard, and through all his work he was also awarded the Governors Lifetime Achievement award for volunteerism. He was preceded in death by his parents Alvin G. and Norma Williams Kessler, his wife of nearly 53 years Eula F. Milam Kessler, brothers Robert and Roger Kessler. Surviving him are his daughters: Norma and Gary Perry of South Charleston, Deborah and Mike Starks of Charleston, Jacqulin and Tom Chaney of Hurricane, Mary Christine and Larry Kopelman of South Charleston, Jennifer and Bobby Starks of Charleston; grandchildren: Jill Hammer, Robert Starks, Mindy Gardner, Lori Green, Amy Starks, Emily Kopelman and Justin Kopelman; great-grandchildren Corey Hammer, Sydney Reed, Grant Gardner, Alexis Holstein, Bryant Starks, Emma Gardner and one on the way coming in May 2019 Annie K. Kopelman; and brother Alvin Kessler of Charleston.

A Memorial Service will be 7:00pm Friday at Chapman Funeral Home, Hurricane. Friends may visit an hour prior to the service on Friday. The family suggests memorial contributions in Jack’s name be made to Putnam County Library, 4219 WV 34, Hurricane WV 25526.
