Born February 5, 1984 in Belleville, Illinois, “Dani”, as she was known to family and friends, moved to West Virginia and attended Chamberlain Elementary in Kanawha City, meeting new people and making friends. A trend that continued throughout her life.
Always the athlete, Dani graduated from Hurricane High School, where she was involved with competition cheerleading. She met the love of her life, Kyle Cavanaugh while in high school, but they didn’t start dating until they both were attending West Virginia University. After Kyle and Dani graduated from WVU, they moved to Pittsburgh for five years.
Dani and Kyle had a wonderful life together, traveling and attending concerts, they both loved music. Since moving back to West Virginia five years ago, Dani and Kyle have made so many friends while boating on the river and Dani through her Zumba classes. Dani also had an eye for design and was an accomplished artist and interior decorator.
Dani’s true passion was her love of animals. She was known as the “cat whisperer” amongst family and colleagues at the Kanawha Charleston Humane Association where Dani worked as a Cat ISO attendant, a job she loved and found so rewarding. Dani’s life was not without struggles, in 2010 she was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma.
“Dani the Warrior” endured two stem cell transplants and hundreds of treatments through her eight year battle with cancer. Dani was fortunate to be on the cutting edge of new treatments for Hodgkin’s lymphoma and in 2016 she received an immune therapy transplant, that sent her cancer into remission and she remained cancer free the last two years of her life. She inspired so many people throughout her illness and the way she lived her life with strength and kindness.
