Mabel’s Obituary Mabel Ann Salem Dodge City – Mabel Ann (Moses) Salem began her life’s journey in a tiny village near Beirut, Syria, now Lebanon, on November 18, 1919. Over the course of the next 99 years, that journey took her from Syria to Mexico to Texas, to Canada, to North and South Dakota, and finally to western Kansas, where she married Hesson Salem at his family’s home outside Cimarron on April 29, 1939. The young couple settled in the country near his parents’ home and farmed there for forty years, until Hesson’s death in April of 1979.

In addition to Hesson, Mabel was preceded in death by her younger son, Joe in 2018, and by five sisters and one brother. Mabel is survived by her son Larry and his wife Anita, and their two daughters, Katrina and Anissa; by two daughters, Gloria and her husband Wayne Barngrover, and their children Quinten and Mikaela; Marla and her husband Alan Griffin and their children, Tristan and Aliesha; and Joe’s wife, Teri, and their daughter Sabra. In addition, Mabel had seventeen great grandchildren.

Mable ended her journey on February 23, 2019 at Brookdale Senior Living in Dodge City. She will be laid to rest beside Hesson in Cimarron. Funeral service will be held at the First United Methodist Church in Cimarron on Thursday, February 28, 2019 at 10:30 AM.

Burial will follow at Cimarron Cemetery in Cimarron. Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Chapel in Dodge City on Wednesday, February 27, 2019 from noon to 8:00 PM, with the family present from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM. Memorials are suggested to Brookdale Senior Living in care of the funeral home.
