Mabel S. Powell, 93, of Orange Park, Florida, passed away peacefully on Thursday November 1, 2018. She was born in Scottsville, KY on February 21, 1925 to William Russell Spurlock and Willis Breckenridge (Carter) Spurlock. Mabel was one of 12 children.

She is survived by one sister, Sue Young. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Carlton (Papa Bear) Johnson and her second husband Samuel (Papa Sam) Powell. She is survived by her four children, Russell Johnson, Barbara Simmons, Gale (Rick) Dollar and Alan Johnson.

Mabel worked for the civil services for 35 years. She volunteered at Orange Park Hospital after her retirement and also bowled in a league in Orange Park, Florida. She enjoyed sewing, gardening and was a devoted Mother, Wife, Sister, Friend and Grandmother.

She was known for her quick wit, her infectious smile, and her kind and compassionate spirit. She had 11 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, and 5 great-great grandchildren. A viewing will be held from 5:00pm until 7:00pm, Friday, November 9, 2018 in the Jacksonville Memory Gardens Chapel.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00pm, Monday, November 12, 2018 at Jacksonville Memory Gardens with Pastor Jimbo Stewart officiating.
