Obituary for Madelyn Marie Hagan Kenney KENNEY, Madelyn Marie Hagan, 86 of Louisville, entered her eternal reward on Tuesday, June 5, 2018 at Baptist East Hospital surrounded by her family. Madelyn was born in Loretto, KY, April 23, 1932 to the late Joseph Guy Hagan and Adelaide Logsdon Hagan. Madelyn is preceded in death by her husband, Gerald Francis Kenney; her son, David; brother, William (Bill) Hagan, sister and brother-in-law, Martha and Roy McGaw, grandson, Gerald Francis Kenny, and great-granddaughter, Dorothy Marie Kenney.
She was also preceded by her brothers and sisters-in-law, Delbert and Helen Kenney, Robert Kenney, Stan and Dorothy Kenney. She is survived by her children; Stanley (Ann Marie), Mary Casabella (Ronald), David’s widow, Deborah, Michael (Mary), Patrick (Susan), Rita Puckett (Tom), Joseph, Janet Chadwell, and Julia Walker (Greg); 45 grandchildren, Misty, Jerry, Maria, Mark, Bobby, Christina, Ben, Andrew, Elizabeth, Angela, Rebecca, Jed, Fr. Joachim, Shawn, Pat, Sister Elizabeth, Nick, Matt, Brigid, John, Joe, Tom, Bernadette, Chris, Emily, Michele, Paul, Ellie, Katie, Jason, Gina, Daniel, David, Taylor, Hayley, Caleb, Mary, Hannah, Tess, Madelyn, Olivia, Peter, Michael, Jacob and Luke and 85 great-grandchildren; her brothers, Joe Guy (Merwyn), Harry (Katsy), Bill’s widow Ruth, Jim (Linda) and John (Carolyn) Hagan; her sisters, Madonna Karrer (Raymond) and Betty Bowman.
She is also survived by a sister-in-law, Mary Agnes Kenney and an extensive family of many nieces, nephews, cousins and 7 Godchildren. Madelyn and Jerry were joined in marriage on June 6, 1953 at St. Francis Catholic Church in Marion County, KY. After being widowed in 1971, she worked as a realtor for Joe Guy Hagan Realty for 15 years and then worked for Mike Kenney State Farm Agency for 15 years.
She was active in many Catholic and pro-life activities and ministries. She cherished her many children, grandchildren and great-grandchild and celebrated each new life. She grew up in Loretto, KY where her deeply rooted faith and strong work ethics were instilled and nurtured.
We are thankful for her virtuous, Christ-centered example, her unceasing prayers, sacrifices and unconditional love. The Funeral Mass will be 9a.m. Saturday at St. Louis Bertrand Catholic Church, 1104 S. 6th Street with burial in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8p.m. Thursday and 2 to 8p.m. Friday at Ratterman Funeral Home, 3711 Lexington Road “in St. Matthews”.
