Madison Bynoe (Brooklyn Unity) July 13, 1925 – February 26, 2019 Share this obituary Sign Guestbook Madrian (Marjorie) Celeine Bynoe, age 93, died peacefully in her sleep due to natural causes on Tuesday February 26th 2019 at Long Island Jewish Hospital with her family by her side. She was born July 13th 1925 in St. George’s Grenada, West Indies. Mrs. Bynoe moved to Trinidad as a teenager then England in 1956 and moved to the US in 1986.
Mrs. Bynoe loved dancing (professionally), traveling, playing mas and high society functions. She attended Mayor Dinkins inauguration, visited the White House as well as the Greater London Council. She visited the Vatican and sang for the Pope of Rome.
Mrs. Bynoe attended the “Model School” (Convent). She also attended the Nunez Private School which resembled that day’s version of college. Her life’s work as a professional seamstress, tailor and dressmaker attributed to her fine sense of style.
In London, she was known as a fashion icon and was known to design and sew clothes for herself and for her son Colin. Mrs. Bynoe lived life to the fullest. Whether she was playing mas in Trinidad, London or New York, or going to one of her many parties or banquets, her happiest time was with her family.
Although she was very active socially, to her neighbors it seemed that she disappeared for six years while she devoted her time and energy to look after her premature grandson Chayim. Carnival time with her oldest son Raphael always had a special place in her heart. She could be stern and would not hesitate to put someone in their place mid sentence.
She was fearless and even confronted police officers on more than one occasions in defense of her son Colin. But she will be more remembered for her wit, charm, jokes, warmth, laughter and beauty. She was a real force of nature and her presence was felt by all.
Mrs. Bynoe was preceded by her parents: William Rogers and Ethel Pican, brothers: Norris, Hubert, Sydney and sisters: Elsie, Baby and Phyllis. Mrs. Bynoe is survived by her brother: Carl Rogers and husband: Aldwyn Bynoe. She is also survived by her children and a slew of grand, great-grand and great-great grandchildren.
Her children are Raphael Rogers and Colin Bynoe. Her grandchildren are Tasha, Onike, Aisha, Raphael, Chayim, Fred, Liane and Robert. Her great-grandchildren are Cyle, Adondre, Kimora, Keilana, Phebe, Hailey, Hezion, Obadiah, Nyla, Nicole and Nelizada.
