Obituary for Mamie Lipscomb Gravely On the morning of September 9, 2018 Mamie Lipscomb Gravely gently closed her eyes and took her wings to eternal life. Mamie was born October 4, 1925 to the late Christine Dillard Morris and Tom Lipscomb. Mamie had retired from years of babysitting the Browns and her own grandchildren.

Mamie was a happy woman who enjoyed life to the fullest. Mamie would always dress her best, no matter what the occasion was. Everyone that came in contact with her knew she was a proud woman.

Mamie was a member of St. Paul’s High Street Baptist Church of Martinsville, Virginia. She was preceded in death by her husband George Spencer Gravely, Sr., one son Thomas G. Gravely, and brother Howard Lipscomb. She leaves to cherish her memories her sons George Anthony Gravely (Ethel) and Charles Leslie Gravely (Betty Jean) all of Martinsville; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Mamie was a loving mother and grandmother who loved her children unconditionally. She enjoyed spending time with her son Tony at his home, and at other times talking to her best friend Margaret on the phone, who is 98 years old, into the wee hours in the morning. Mamie would fall asleep on the phone and wake up and pick back up where she left off.

They both would try to care for each other. The Celebration of Life will be on Thursday, September 13, 2018, at 1:00 PM at St. Paul’s High Street Baptist Church with Rev. Matthew Brown officiating.

Interment will follow in Carver Memorial Gardens. Wright Funeral Service & Crematory is serving the family. On Line condolences may be made at www.
