Obituary for Manouchehr Akhbari Manouchehr Akhbari (January 5, 1925 – November 11, 2018) Manouchehr “Manou” Akhbari passed away suddenly but peacefully on Sunday, November 11, 2018 at the age of 93 in Manchester, New Hampshire, while traveling for his beloved granddaughter’s wedding. Manou is survived by his wife of 71 years, Forough; a sister Malieh of Iran; children Hamid Akhbari (Marlena) and Helen Martin (James); grandchildren Michael Akhbari (Gayden), Elyse Akhbari (Stephen Murphy), Nicholas Martin (Millie), David Martin (Amy), and Jusmine Martin (Blair Rutherford); and great grandchildren, Allana Martin, Margaret Akhbari, Anne Akhbari, and Lydia Murphy-along friends and loved ones the world over. Manou was born a world away in Iran to his father, Esmaiel, and mother Kobra.

His was a remarkable life, nearly too packed full of accomplishments and challenges to commit to paper. Manou grew up in Tehran and went on to become an officer and aircraft armament instructor in the Iranian Air Force. His time with the Iranian Air Force took him all over the world, from working UN peacekeeping missions in the Congo, to traveling to the United States to study at various U.S. Air Force bases.

In 1986 he took his greatest adventure of all, leaving his home, life and possessions and relocating to Dayton, Ohio at 61 years of age. In Dayton, Manou busied himself with starting his own handyman service, cultivating his large garden, swimming at his local gym, and earning United States citizenship. He resided in Dayton the rest of his life, within walking distance of his son and grandchildren.

Manou will be remembered as someone who found joy in a day’s worth of hard work, who never met a task he couldn’t accomplish or problem he couldn’t solve, and who never stopped learning and growing, right up until his last days. He loved a big party, he loved keeping in touch with old friends and family, he loved creating, fixing, and tinkering, and most of all he loved his family. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

After a brief graveside ceremony at David’s Cemetery at noon, a Celebration of Manou’s life will be held on Friday, November 23, 2018 at the Presidential Banquet Center in Kettering, Ohio at 12:30pm.
