Margaret Morris Harris, 96, of Portage, Indiana passed away Tuesday, January 22, 2019 at Miller’s Merry Manor in Portage, Indiana. She was born January 9, 1923 in Pinkstaff, Illinois, the daughter of Frank and Emma (Kendell) Morris. Margaret was a Girl Scout Leader for 23 years and was an Indiana State PTA Representative for four years.

She was a member of the St. Timothy Community Church in Gary, Indiana. She was an accomplished China painting artist and award-winning quilter, but loved gardening most of all. Preceding her in death were her parents; two brothers; nine sisters; three grandchildren.

Marg outlived all of her husbands. Survivors include one son, Ron Wimbley of Chauncey, Illinois; four daughters, Synda Swope of Gary, Indiana, Deborah Black and husband, Ronald, of Sicklerville, New Jersey, Pamela Kendrick of Sicklerville, New Jersey, and Susan Parrish of Portage, Indiana; 11 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. Throughout her life, Marg wore out her bible!

She had a beer with her fish and wine with her steak. She would rather argue than eat and she dearly loved her food. She instilled a strong work ethic in her kids by her tireless example.

Rest well mom and rise in glory. Graveside service will be Monday, January 28, 2019 at 1:00 PM at the Portee Cemetery. Emmons-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home in Lawrenceville, Illinois is in charge of the arrangements.
