Obituary for Maria Elena Vega On March 2, 1947 an angel came in the name of Maria Elena. Many knew her as Mary Helen and family knew her as Nena. She became an angel and entered the beautiful Kingdom of God on May 9, 2018.

Nena was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother. Daughter, sister, aunt and friend. For many years she fought her health battles, long and hard defeating all odds but towards the end, her body just couldn’t take any more pain and suffering.

Her loving family were by her side until the very end. Mary Helen was a hard and dedicated worker. She started her career with Esskay Manufactoring Co. for 14 years and finished her career with SAISD Payroll Dept.

She retired in 2012 after 26 years of service with SAISD. As her children were growing up, she was a dedicated mother and very involved with her children. She was Cheer Director for the Southside Little Cowboys and President for Five Diamonds Little League.

Mary Helen loved to dance and she loved to go to the casino. She loved hummingbirds, yellow roses and the color peach. She enjoyed watching the Dallas Cowboys and San Antonio Spurs (the old timers).

But most of all, she loved sitting by the fireplace watching Lifetime movies. Her final request was to spend her final days in front of the fireplace. She had so much love to give, for she loved unconditionally.

She left a lasting impression on those who crossed her path and their hearts were touched forever. She will truly be missed. Mrs. Vega was preceded in death by her parents, Genovevo “Henry” Rodriguez and Rosalia Aguilar Rodriguez; sister, Mercedes “Manita” Garcia; brothers, Manuel Rodriguez, Henry “Bae” Rodriguez and Rudy Rodriguez.
