Maria Varrone January 04, 1931 – March 09, 2019 Share this obituary View/Sign Guest Book WATEBURY Maria Varrone “Loving Mother, Sister, Grandmother & Great Grandmother” Maria (Addona) Varrone, 88, of Waterbury, was reunited in heaven with her loving husband, Umberto of 37 years, after a courageous battle with breast cancer, on Saturday, March 9, 2019, surrounded by her loving family at the VITAS Inpatient Unit at St. Mary’s Hospital. Maria was born on January 4, 1931 in Pontelandolfo, Benevento, Italy, daughter of the late Giuseppe and Giocondina (Longo) Addona. Maria made the daring journey by boat to the United States with her husband and three children in 1970.
She worked for Lorilai Fashions and Teta Sewing Factory as a seamstress and Mattatuck Manufacturing, later known as Teleflex, as a machine operator until her retirement in 1992. She loved playing cards with friends and family, taking trips to the casino as well as watching Jeopardy! and Wheel of Fortune.
Her family will miss her knitted creations and her homemade cooking and baking, especially her Sunday sauce. Maria leaves behind to cherish her memory her three children; Filomena Romano, Michael Varrone and Luisa Setaro and her husband Antonio, all of Waterbury, and her siblings; Antonio Addona and his wife Rosina of Collegeville, PA, Frank Addona and his wife Dolores of Waterbury and Lina DeAngelis of Waterbury. She also leaves behind her six grandchildren; Sabrina Ioannou and her husband Andrew, Rossano Romano, Elisabeth Morin and her husband Rich, Lydia Varrone, Michael A. Varrone, Alessandra Setaro and her five great grandchildren; Christina, Chase, Isla, Scarlett and Liliana as well as several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her son-in-law, Cosimo Romano and her brother-in-law; Umberto DeAngelis. Arrangements: A funeral will be held on Tuesday, March 12, 2019, 9:45 a.m. at Chase Parkway Memorial, The Albini Family Funeral Home, 430 Chase Parkway, Waterbury to SS. Peter & Paul Church for a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Waterbury.
A calling hour will be held Tuesday morning from 8:30 – 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home.
