Marie Joa Watson Sigourney , September 03, 1933 — June 27, 2018

Obituary for Marie Watson (Sigourney) Marie Joan Sigourney-Baklund-Watson, 84, of Hastings, passed away on Wednesday June 27th, 2018, in her home, surrounded by her family, as they sang her favorite songs to her. She was born September 3rd, 1933 in Battle Creek, the daughter of Niley Sigourney and Frannie Sigourney, and attended the Battle Creek Public Schools system. Marie enjoyed spending time with her family, including grandkids and great grandchildren.

She enjoyed gardening, cooking for family and friends, rearranging her home, hustling for deals at garage sales, fishing, shopping, painting, and decorating her home for all seasons, especially Christmas. She is known to dress up elaborately for Halloween. She enjoyed listening to Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash and Loretta Lynn.

She loved traveling and dancing. In her earlier life, she would often take her children to Woolworth’s in Battle Creek for ice cream floats. Marie enjoyed hand embroidery, hooked rugs and providing help to others.

She is known to have performed works of charity by providing large amounts of food to the less-fortunate during the holidays. She worked at Holiday Inn and at senior living homes. Marie also lived through the great depression.

She enjoyed entertaining family and friends, putting smiles on peoples’ face and is known for her ability to make others feel at home. Here favorite color is red. Marie was known as a hard-working woman, that would teach her children and grandchildren the value of hard work.

After meals she is known for saying to the children, “Kids, I have a surprise for you: washing dishes”. She is survived by three daughters and one son; Linda Marie Baklund-Eddy (Jim), Kathleen M Medland, Rose Ann Leask (Doug), and David Edward Baklund (Tammy), and by fourteen grandchildren, twenty-three great grandchildren, and her special nephews Bumper (Nancy) and Andrew. She is preceded by her parents Niley and Frannie Sigourney, and her two brothers Howard and Darrell, sister Viola, and sister-in-law Carol.

A funeral service will be conducted at Baxter Funeral & Cremation Service, at 1:00 pm on June 29th, 2018, with a burial service to follow at Floral Lawn Cemetery at 3:00 pm. Memorial donations in honor of Marie may be made to the Hastings Commission on Aging. Call 269-948-4856.
