Marilyn graduated from Dorchester Public Schools with the class of 1953. She was known as a child to be soft-spoken and caring.

On January 18, 1954, Marilyn was united in marriage to Clifford Johnson in Fairbury, Nebraska and to this union three children were born: Steven, Sharon, and Karen. Together, they lived on Cliff’s family farm east of Cordova. Later, life would bring them to Milford where they would raise their family and watch their grandchildren and great grandchildren grow up.

Marilyn was a kind and gentle soul. She dedicated her life to caring for others. From working at Crestview and Sunrise, to babysitting for her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Marilyn was always providing comfort and love to those around her. She loved a good crossword puzzle and was a formidable challenger in a game of scrabble, which she enjoyed playing with her sister, Kitty, until Kitty’s death. Marilyn was an avid Nebraska Cornhusker football fan but refused to listen to announcers on TV.

Instead, she would watch TV on mute, listening with the Cornhusker Radio broadcast playing in the background. The family encourages this tactic be used by any and all Husker fans in memory of Marilyn. The earth will miss Marilyn’s light and love, but she leaves it’s impact in the souls she has left behind.

Marilyn is survived by her children and their spouses; Steven Johnson, Easley, SC, Sharon and Joe Grutsch, Seward and Karen and Gene Filbert, Milford; 4 grandchildren, Rachelle Agnew-Gilstrap, Easley, SC, Shawn Filbert, Milford, Kristen Derr, also of Milford, Andrew Johnson, Easley, SC; 10 great-grandchildren, Tyler, Rorie, Lyla, Liam and Lanie Filbert; Ryker Derr; Cameran, Kailon, Brendan, and A’righah; sister-in-law, Dorothy Simpson, Cairo, NE, nieces, nephews and host of other relatives and friends. Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Clifford in 2015, and all of her 13 brothers and sisters. A family graveside service will be held at Zastrow Cemetery, Cordova at a later date.

No visitation or other services will be held. Memorials may be directed in care of Blue Valley Animal Rescue. Lauber Funeral and Cremation Services, Milford, is entrusted with the care and arrangements.
