Marilyn Carrera, age 63, of Collinsville, IL, passed away on Tuesday, January 8, 2019 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Clayton, MO. Marilyn was born on September 23, 1955 in St. Louis, MO, a daughter of the late Martin Carrera and Angelina (Hernandez) Carrera. On September 26, 1996, Marilyn started dating Diane Disbrow, the love of her life.

Marilyn was a funeral director and embalmer, and she completed her apprenticeship at Irwin Chapel in Granite City, IL and Glen Carbon, IL. Marilyn loved the outdoors and she enjoyed feeding and taking care of the birds. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family and friends.

Marilyn loved life, she loved to laugh, but most of all she loved her family. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her. She is survived by her partner of twenty-three years, Diane Disbrow of Collinsville, IL; loving children, Julie (Brent) Walsh of Indianapolis, IN and Christian Steed of St. Louis, MO; dear god-children, Delores Foster of Dupo, IL and Edwin Bowen Jr. of Arnold, MO; proud sister to nine sisters and six brothers; many nieces, nephews, extended family and many friends.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Friday, January 11, 2019 at Irwin Chapel, 591 Glen Crossing Road, Glen Carbon, IL. In celebration of her life, funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 12, 2019 at Irwin Chapel, Glen Carbon, IL. Interment will be in Calvary Catholic Cemetery, Edwardsville, IL.

Memorial donations may be given to St. Jude Children’s Hospital. Donations will be accepted at the funeral chapel. Condolences may be expressed to the family online at www.
