Catherin Louis Ponce , September 11, 1948 — February 26, 2019

Catherine Louise Ponce, age 90, of Granite City, IL, passed away on Tuesday, February 26, 2019 at Gateway Regional Medical Center, Granite City, IL. Catherine was born on January 21, 1929 in East St. Louis, IL, a daughter of the late Frank and Rose (Hotto) Maurer. On September 11, 1948, Catherine Maurer married Roy Ponce, the love of her life at St. Marks Catholic Church in Venice, IL.

Catherine was a proud homemaker who loved taking care of her family. She was a faithful member of St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Granite City, IL. Catherine enjoyed volunteering at the church.

She was involved in many facets at the church, including helping with the funeral luncheons. She was an avid St. Louis Cardinals Baseball fan, and she enjoyed quilting and playing bridge. Catherine was past president of the Knights of Columbus Ladies Auxiliary in Granite City, IL.

Her greatest joy was spending time with her family, whom she adored. Catherine loved life, she loved to laugh, but most of all she loved her family. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.

In addition to her parents, Catherine was preceded in death by her brother, Jay Daniel Maurer. She is survived by her devoted husband of seventy years, Roy Ponce of Granite City, IL; loving daughters and sons-in-law, Rosalie and Michael Christopher of Blue Springs, MO and Susan and William Temple of Granite City, IL; proud grandmother to Natasha Ponce and Tabatha Herzing; proud great-grandmother to Taytum Cook, Riddli Riggins, Aurora Howland and Nova Howland; extended family and many dear friends. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Friday, March 1, 2019 at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road, Granite City, IL.

In celebration of her life, a funeral mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 2, 2019 at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church, Granite City, IL, with Father Zachary Edgar officiating. Interment will be in Calvary Catholic Cemetery, Edwardsville, IL. Memorial donations may be given to American Heart Association.
