Madean King, age 97, of Granite City, IL, passed away at her home on Saturday, February 16, 2019. Madean was born on October 2, 1921 in Fremont, MO, a daughter of the late Elton Grindstaff and Laura (Bristol) Grindstaff. Madean was a proud homemaker who loved taking care of her family.

She was a faithful member of Bridgeway Assembly of God in Shell Knob, IL. Madean was a talented seamstress who enjoyed sewing, embroidery, quilting and cooking for her family. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family, whom she adored.

Madean will be remembered for the love and special times shared with her family and friends. In addition to her parents, Madean was preceded in death by her husband, William A. King Jr.; two sons-in-law, Donald Palovchik and Monroe Hefner; sisters, Anna Maxine Griffin and Norma Jean Grindstaff; and by a brother, Gaylord Grindstaff. Madean is survived by her loving daughters, Darlene Palovchik of Granite City, IL and Lelan Hefner of Edwardsville, IL; brother, Kenneth E. Grindstaff of Sikeston, MO; grandchildren, Robin Bainter, Romona Hefner, Rebecca Anderson, Brady Hefner and Tammy Houser; three great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren; extended family and many friends.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 19, 2019 at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road, Granite City, IL. In celebration of her life, funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, February 20, 2019 at Irwin Chapel, Granite City, IL. Interment will be in Sunset Hill Memorial Estates, Glen Carbon, IL.

Memorial donations may be given to Unity Hospice. Donations will be accepted at the funeral chapel. Condolences may be expressed to the family online at www.
