John C. Ranek, age 48, of Glen Carbon, IL, passed away on Wednesday, February 6, 2019 at Anderson Hospital, Maryville, IL. John was born on April 24, 1970 in Alton, IL, a son of the late Vernon C. Ranek and Rita J. (Hopgood) Ranek. John started his career with the street department on April 9, 1997, for the City of Glen Carbon, IL; he was a faithful and dedicated employee.

John was an avid St. Louis Cardinals Baseball fan and he enjoyed going to games with his family and friends. He was also an outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing, golfing and traveling. His greatest joy was spending time with his family, especially with his grandson Asher, whom he adored.

John loved life, he loved to laugh, but most of all he loved his family. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him. He is survived by his devoted wife, Jessica (Clinton) Ranek of Glen Carbon, IL; loving son and daughter-in-law, Chris and Sarah Wallace of Moro, IL; dear sister and brother-in-law, Jane and Danny Holtmann of Edwardsville, IL; proud grandfather to Asher Wallace; extended family and many wonderful friends.

Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 12, 2019 at Irwin Chapel, 591 Glen Crossing Road, Glen Carbon, IL. In celebration of his life, funeral services will follow at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral chapel, with Rev. Charles West officiating.

John will be laid to rest next to his parents at Glen Carbon City Cemetery. Memorial donations may be given to Heartland Hospice or to Cardinals Kids Cancer Center c/o Mercy Hospital. Donations will be accepted at the funeral chapel.
