Dorothy Mathon, age 94, of Granite City, IL, passed away on Sunday, December 30, 2018 at her home. Dorothy was born on June 1, 1924 in Taylorville, IL, a daughter of the late Abel Maquet and Nellie (Dearinger) Maquet. On September 14, 1946, Dorothy married Edward Mathon, the love of her life.

Edward passed away on October 20, 1997. After raising her children, Dorothy worked at Shermers Hardware, W.T. Grant and Chouteau Township. She enjoyed collecting angels, making crafts, crocheting and sewing.

Her greatest joy was spending time with her family. Dorothy loved life, she loved to laugh, but most of all she loved her family. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.

In addition to her parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by a daughter, Patricia O’Brian; her sons, Michael Mathon and Gary Mathon; grandson, Michael Focht; and by her sisters, Elsie Powell and Rose Schroyer. She is survived by her loving children, Judy (Jimmy) Hayes of Mitchell, IL and Becky Focht of Granite City, IL; daughter-in-law, Debbie Mathon of Bradon, FL; proud grandmother to thirteen grandchildren and many great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; extended family and friends. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 3, 2019 at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road, Granite City, IL.

In celebration of her life, funeral services will follow at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, with Rev. Henry Crippen officiating. Interment will be in Sunset Memory Gardens in Thonotosassa, FL.

Memorial donations may be given to American Cancer Society. Donations will be accepted at the funeral chapel. Condolences may be expressed to the family online at www.
