Maryville: Marlene Carol (Tant) Dupy, born November 3, 1939 meet her Heavenly Father on Sunday, June 17th, 2018 after a short stay at Meridian Village Senior Living in Glen Carbon, Illinois. She was married to her high school sweetheart, Jerome Martin Dupy for 60 years, who arrived in heaven April 15, 2018 just weeks before Marlene joined him. We believe, Jerry was eagerly awaiting at heavens gates to welcome her to their permanent enteral bliss.

Marlene was a graduate of the… Read More » 1957 class of East Alton Wood River High School. Prior to her retirement to the Indian Hills Lake Community in Cuba, Missouri with her beloved husband, she served the Wood River community as Police Chief Secretary for many years. Marlene, was known by family, friends and neighbors for her love of animals.

She rescued cats in every town she lived. Throughout her life many cats learned of her fondness from other felines. There was talk in the underground “cat world” that if you needed a home or a good meal Marlene’s house was the happening place.

Cats would often show up on her doorstep and then refused to leave. In addition to her love of these furry companions, Marlene was known for her philanthropy and shared her talents by volunteering in every community in which she lived, most recently at Anderson Hospital in Maryville and the Wood River History Museum. While residing in Wood River, Marlene was proud to raise two sons, Jeff of Wood River and Jay of Maryville.

One of Marlene’s favorite roles in life was being a grandmother. She thoroughly enjoyed when family would visit her at the “Lake” in Cuba, Missouri where she and Jerry would take them swimming, skiing and boating. Marlene’s witty sense of humor is one of many things her family and friends will treasure about her.

Our hearts are filled with memories emphasizing her jokes and the sound of her laughter. Her family imagines that she and Jerry will continue their daily ritual of celebrating happy hour together in heaven. Marlene was preceded in death by her husband Jerome Dupy, her cherished grandson, Jordan Dupy, mother Luewida Strong, step-father Chet Strong, father Harold Tant and step-mother Mary Tant, Aunt Elene Morgan and many loved cats.

Those who are left to treasure her memory and continue her legacy are sons Jeff and wife Jill Dupy of Wood River, Jay Dupy of Maryville and three amazing grandchildren Joli, Andrew and Jada Dupy. As well as many friends who loved her dearly. In lieu of flowers, donations on her behalf can be sent to the Parkinson Foundation, 200 SE 1st Street, Suite 800, Miami, Florida, 33131.

Her children would like to invite Marlene and Jerry’s friends to join them for a Celebration of Life open house at their favorite restaurant Mariachi’s in Maryville on what would be their 61st anniversary, July 20th, 2018 from 1-3p.m. You are welcome to bring any special photos to share with the family and of course your favorite memories of them both.
