Mart’s Obituary Memorial service for Mart Cunningham, 83, of Canton, is scheduled for 12:00 noon Saturday, March 9, 2019, at Allan Fuller Funeral Home Chapel in Wills Point with Pastor Dan Tarno officiating. Interment will be at White Rose Cemetery in Wills Point. He passed away early Friday morning, February 22, 2019, at his residence in Canton.

Mart was born March 22, 1935, in Wills Point, the son of Elbert Gee Cunningham and Florence Irene Luttrull Cunningham. He was raised in Wills Point and at seventeen he moved to California where he apprenticed in painting at Hunter’s Point. In 1954, he joined the Army and was involved in the logistics where he logged in and handled supplies and was discharged in 1957.

Mart went to work for his Army Reserve Unit and retired in 1994 from the Civil Service. On March 18, 1955, he married Rosalie Sue Neall in Mountain View, California. He enjoyed photography, reading the newspaper, working on cars and wood working.

He lived in Hayward and Fairfield, California prior to moving to Canton twenty-three years ago. Mart was of the Baptist faith and was known as a gentleman’s gentleman. Preceded in death by his parents, Elbert and Florence Cunningham; two brothers, Olen Cunningham and Harmon Cunningham; sister, Lottie Murine Cunningham and a great-grandson, Hunter Dale Cunningham.

Mart is survived by his wife, Rosalie Cunningham, of Canton; son, Richard Allan Cunningham & wife Charlotte, of Aubrey; daughter, Katherine Clements, of Canton; sister, Martha Sue Platter, of Wills Point; three grandchildren, Andre Michelo Cunningham, Erin Rosalie Anderson and Kyle Erik Cunningham and five great-grandchildren, Nicole Custer, Robert Anderson, Kellen Anderson, Molly Anderson and Ginny Cunningham. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
