Mary Elizabeth Gallagher Reynolds, December 27, 1926 — January 17, 2019

Obituary for Mary Elizabeth Gallagher (Reynolds) Mary Gallagher (nee Reynolds) passed away peacefully on January 17, 2019 at the age of 92. Mary brought smiles and laughter to those who knew and loved her. She was born in Jersey City, New Jersey on December 27, 1926, to John and Louise (Pichot) Reynolds.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, James, in 2000, her sister Jane Gillespie and her brother John Reynolds. She will be greatly missed by her children Kathryn (Dean Crane) and David (Kathleen O’Malley), her sister Louise (Tom) Rempe, and many dear friends. Mary grew up during the Great Depression, but never wanted for a happy home and the love of family.

She proudly told stories of her youth and teenage years, of summers spent in the countryside of Jersey and “down the shore,” and seeing a young Frank Sinatra for a dime in New York City. She had what she would often call a “big job” as the secretary to the head of the New York Stock Exchange, and nobody could type faster or more accurately. After marrying, she became a loving and supportive homemaker, living primarily in the Midwest but always remaining a Jersey Girl at heart.

After her children were grown, she later returned to full-time work in real estate, which she found very rewarding. Always ready for fun, she made friends quickly and easily at every point in her life. We will miss her good humor and generous heart, but her love of cooking will live on in her kids.

A memorial Mass will be held on Thursday, January 24th, at St. Peters Catholic Church at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be private. Visitation will be held on Thursday at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the Mass. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Dementia Society of America.
