Obituary for Mary Elizabeth Taylor Mary Elizabeth “Beth” Taylor, 91, died November 13, 2018. Memories of Beth will be cherished by her sister, Nora Taylor Mason and brother, Gene R. Taylor and wife Eloise. She will also be remembered lovingly by her nephews and nieces: Ramona (Mike) Coveny and family, Ronald (Deborah) Mason and family, Lenora Washburn and family, Leonard (Patricia) Mason, Jr. and family, Susan Taylor, Robert Taylor and family, Steven Taylor and family.

Dottie McCarthy, Beth’s best friend from Plant City, Florida, has many stories of their times together. She was predeceased in death by her father and mother, Jessee Herbert “Hub” and Virginia Love Taylor and brother-in-law, Leonard G. Mason, Sr. Faith, family and friends were the important parts of Beth’s life. Beth was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses in 1941, pioneered in 1948 and became a missionary to Japan in 1952.

She stayed in Japan until her mother’s illness from Alzheimer’s brought her back to the United States in 1980. Beth was her mother’s primary caregiver until her death in 1997. She stayed in Florida serving Jehovah with her friend Dottie and others in the congregation.

In 2006, she returned to her birthplace, Rocky Mount, Virginia, where she lived with her sister Nora and was a member of the congregation in Wirtz, Virginia. Illness forced her to relocate to an assisted living facility in Salem in 2012. Still, Beth and her sister Nora had daily conversations and her brother Gene would telephone often.

Her many nieces and nephews loved, visited and cared for her in the remaining years of her life. Memorial services will be held at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witness, 5969 Booker T. Washington Highway, Wirtz, VA on Monday, November 19, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions should be made to the local Kingdom Hall or your favorite local charity. Cremation by Wright Funeral Service, Martinsville, Virginia.
