Funeral services will be held at 10am Friday morning at Archangel Michael Greek Orthodox Church for, Mary G. Barker, 85, whom left this realm on June 2, 2018 and has finally been reunited with her one true love, Donald V. Barker, who passed away on November 13, 2017. Mary was born on March 28th, 1933 in Youngstown, Ohio to Kalliopi Koulianos Mastrovaselis and George Mastrovaselis. Mary was a 1951 graduate of Campbell Memorial High School and continued her education at Youngstown State University where she earned both a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education and a Master’s Degree in Special Education.

Mary taught at Covington Elementary and Mary Haddow Elementary Schools in Youngstown, Ohio, as well as Gordon Elementary and Reed Middle Schools in Campbell, Ohio. Mary wed her beloved Donald in 1960 at Archangel Michael Greek Orthodox Church where she was a lifelong member and taught Sunday school for many years. Mary was a devoted wife, loving mother and dedicated educator who was a of inspiration to everyone, especially her children.

Mary leaves to cherish her memory her children, Calliope (John Scott) Fakner, Dr. Vida Zoe (Paul) Choucalas, Dr. Themelina Gaetano M.D., Georgia Dee Barker Esq. , and Donald Ray Barker; as well as 15 grandchildren and one great grandson. Mary is also survived by two sisters, Thelma Ginnis and Martha Marousis; and many nieces and nephews.

Mary is preceded in death by her parents; her husband Donald; as well as her brothers Spiro, John, and Charlie Mastrovaselis. Mary always instilled in her children and scores of students throughout her over 30 years of teaching, that education can open doors as well as minds. In light of this, the family is requesting that in lieu of flowers, contributions be made in the name of the Barker Family Trust to establish the Mary G. Barker Memorial Scholarship for a 2019 graduate of Campbell Memorial High School.

The Barker family has entrusted their loved one to the care of the Wasko Funeral Home and will receive family and friends on Thursday evening from 4 to 7pm at the funeral home and again on Friday morning from 9:30-10am at Archangel Michael Greek Orthodox Church.
