Mays February 26, 1926 – February 07, 2019 Share this obituary Send Flowers Sign Guestbook| Send Private Condolences| Send Sympathy Card Mary Hale Mays, 92, of Charles Town, passed away on Thursday, February 7, 2019 at the Hospice of the Panhandle Inpatient Care Facility. Born in 1926 in Bluefield, VA to the late Joseph Moss Hale and Stella (Tabor) Hale, Mary was raised on her family’s dairy farm. She moved to Jefferson County in 1953.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 34 years, Russell G. Mays, who passed away in 1984. After the death of her husband, she began working for the Jefferson County School System at age 60 and continued for approximately twenty years, until retirement in her early 80s. She was a very loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

She was a graduate of Graham High School in Bluefield, VA. She was a long-standing member of The Charles Town Presbyterian Church. She is survived by her son; Michael Mays and wife Paula of Morgantown and her daughter; Sarah Corley and husband James of Martinsburg.

Grandchildren; Benjamin Mays and wife Carolyn Smith, Nathaniel Mays and wife Eva, Jonathan Corley and Zachary Corley. Great Grandchildren; Conor, Nora and Clara Mays. She was preceded in death by three sisters and ten brothers.

She was the last of her immediate family. The family of Mary would like to acknowledge her caregiver during the last year of her life, Crystal Boyd, for the wonderful and loving care bestowed upon their mother. Services will be held on Monday, February 11, 2019 at 11 a.m. at The Melvin T. Strider Colonial Funeral Home with Reverend John Bethard officiating.

Interment will be in the Edge Hill Cemetery. Friends may be received at the funeral home on Sunday, February 10, 2019 from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Please sign the online guestbook and view her obituary at www.
