Mary Jane Smith, 86, of Baker, WV died on Monday, October 22, 2018 at her home surrounded by her family. Mrs. Smith was born on April 22, 1932 in Baker, WV, the daughter of the late Jasper Hall and Beulah Francis Bradfield. Mrs. Smith was a lifelong resident of Hardy County.

She was a homemaker. She enjoyed quilting and being with family. Mrs. Smith was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church and a 50+ years member of the Arkansaw CEOs.

She received her GED high school diploma in 1969. … Read More » She was inducted into the West Virginia 4-H All Stars as an Adult Leader in 1979. Mrs. Smith married Justin Lyle “Jet” Smith on April 4, 1958 in Arkansaw, WV.

Mr. Smith preceded her in death on December 1, 2009. Surviving are her children: Marcia Dove (David) of Baker, WV; Kristi Tate (Fred) of Rockingham, VA; three grandsons: Justin Frye of Baker, WV, Patrick Tate (Ashlie) of Linville, VA and Christopher Tate (Brookeneil) of Staunton, VA; a step-granddaughter: Stephanie Snapp (Steven) of Mathias, WV; three great-grandchildren: Parker, Jodie & Paxtyn Tate; two step-great-grandchildren: Easton & Baylee Snapp; a brother: Claude Bradfield (Shelia) of Baker, WV; several sisters-in-law: Wilda Phebus, Charlotte Bradfield, Hilda Bradfield & Nancy R. Bradfield and many nieces & nephews. Mrs. Smith is preceded in death by three brothers: Harold Clifton Bradfield, Glen Olen Bradfield and Cecil David Bradfield.

Funeral services will be at the Zion Lutheran Church on Thursday, October 25, 2018 at 11:00 AM. Officiating will be Pastor Gary Koontz. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Family will receive friends at the Loy-Giffin Funeral in Wardensville, WV on Wednesday, October 24, 2018 from 5-8 PM and on Thursday an hour prior to the service. Memorial contributions may be made to the Zion Lutheran Church, PO Box 225, Baker, WV 26801 or Hardy County Committee on Aging, PO Box 632, Moorefield, WV 26836. The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to Mary Jane’s personal caregivers for the excellent care that she received.
