Obituary for Mary Murphy (White Eyes) Mary Louise White Eyes-Murphy was born on June 30, 1949 in Pine Ridge, SD to John and Florene (Twiss) White Eyes. Mary made her journey to the Spirit World on August 25, 2018 at the St. Mary’s Hospital in Reno, NV. Mary grew up in Scottsbluff, NE and later moved with her family to San Francisco, CA during the relocation program.

Mary returned to Pine Ridge where she attended Red Cloud Indian School where she graduated from. After high school, Mary attended Stanford University in Palo Alto, CA where she obtained a Bachelors Degree in Anthropology. Mary worked numerous places throughout her career dealing with human biological and physiological characteristics which her degree led her to excel in.

Mary returned to Pine Ridge after some time and resided with her brother, Lee DeCory. Mary enjoyed visiting with family and friends during her time back in Pine Ridge and then she decided to go and visit her brother, John, in Kings Beach, CA. During her time in Kings Beach, Mary fell ill and passed away in Reno, NV before she was able to return home.

Mary will be missed by all her family and friends whom loved her dearly. Mary is survived by her daughter, Kathy (Timothy Fischer) Thompson of Sacramento, CA; brothers, Lee (Yvonne) DeCory of Pine Ridge, SD and John White Eyes of Kings Beach, CA; grandchildren, Harry Thompson, Merida Thompson, James Thompson, Cheryl Thompson, Calvin Thompson, Richard Thompson, Jr. and Milee Thompson; aunts, Barbara White Eyes-Rivera of Houston, TX, Phyllis White Eyes-DeCory of Mission, SD, and Williamine “Cis” White Eyes of Pine Ridge, SD; special nieces, Laticia “Doni” (Eric Sampson) DeCory and Rita Moran both of Pine Ridge, SD; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Mary was preceded in death by her parents, John and Florene (Twiss) White Eyes; and son, Richard Thompson, Sr. Visitation Services: 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM, Friday, August 31, 2018 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Pine Ridge, SD.
