Obituary for Mary Louise Starks (Nelson) Mary Louise Starks, 92, passed away peacefully on Monday, November 26, 2018, at John Knox Village in Lee’s Summit, MO. Mary was born January 10th, 1926 in Monticello, MO located in Lewis County. Born to Gladys Nelson as “Mary Louise Nelson”.

Mary was baptized November 4th, 1937. She passed after a long hard battle with Alzheimer’s Dementia. She graduated from Northeast High School in KCMO.

ON January 19th, 1944, she married LeWayne O. Starks. Mary was a member of the River Boulevard Baptist Church. Mary was a Sunday school teacher and participated in vacation bible school for several years.

Mary was a member of the Fairmount Elementary PTA. Mary was also an accomplished artist having attended for a short time the Kansas City Art Institute. She painted a stunning painting of the old McElroy Mansion in Sugar Creek, MO, china painted, crocheted and sewed numerous garments and Halloween costumes for family members.

Mary also enjoyed fishing and deer hunting with her husband and spent many weekends and vacations in Cross Timbers, MO located in Hickory County, MO. Mary lived most of her life in Fairmount, MO. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and one sister.

She is survived by one sister Dorothy Houghton and two sons, Samuel W. Starks and Larry W. Starks. Two granddaughters, Rachel Rose of Liberty, MO and Jackie Mahbub, Columbus, OH and well as one grandson, Nicholas Starks in St. Louis, MO. Along with 5 great-grandchildren and one on the way.

Funeral services will be held at Carson-Speaks Chapel, 1501 W. Lexington Ave. , Independence, MO www. speakschapel.com on Friday November 30, 2018 at 2:00pm with a visitation one hour prior.

Burial to follow at Mt. Washington Cemetery, Independence, MO. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to the Alzheimer’s Association.
