Mary McLaughlin Matthews, 90, wife of the late Duncan “Dunk” Matthews, died Tuesday, May 8, 2018, at her residence. Funeral services will be 2:00 PM, Saturday, May 12, 2018, at Carolina Funeral Home Chapel, Scranton, with burial to follow at Strickland-Feagin Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 PM, Friday, May 11, 2018 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Matthews was born on July 4, 1927 in Florence County, daughter of the late John McLaughlin and Ella Lee McLaughlin. She was the oldest member of Camp Branch Church of God of Prophecy. Mrs. Matthews also attended The Bible Temple where she was a member of the Senior Ladies Sunday School Class.

She retired from Avon Dale, after 26 years of service. Surviving are her daughter, Ann Fulton of Scranton; grandchildren, Cynthia M. (Roger) Smiley, Michael (Mickie) Matthews, Linda (James) Parrott, Brenda (Bobby) Moore, Debra Matthews, April Matthews, Stephen (Hannah) Matthews, Jason Matthews, Dillon Matthews and Linda Watson; seventeen great grandchildren; ten great-great grandchildren. Mrs. Matthews was preceded in death by her sons, Roy Matthews and Stevie Matthews; daughter-in-law, Barbara Dean Matthews; granddaughter, Lori DeFee; great grandchildren, Robert Moore and Jessica Matthews; and siblings, Charlie McLaughlin, John Henry McLaughlin, Fate McLaughlin, Bud Lee, Robert McDougal and Claudie Mae Mellette.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to Cindy Locklair, Wendy Altman and the rest of the Agape Hospice Staff for their care and concern during this time.
