Mary E. Sleeter, 91 of rural Urbana died at 7:55 a.m. Thursday July 19, 2018 at home. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday July 22 with a Rosary Service starting at 4:45 at Renner-Wikoff Chapel & Crematory, 1900 S. Philo Rd. , Urbana.

A Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 a.m. Monday at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, 708 W. Main St., Urbana. The Rev. Father Luke Spannagel will officiate.

Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Urbana. Mary was born September 17, 1926 in Champaign, the daughter of Royal and Mary (Perman) Waters. She married Joseph H. Sleeter on February 8, 1945 in Champaign and he preceded her in death after 61 years of marriage on December 24, 2006.

Mary is survived by her daughters, Beth Reinhart (Charlie) of Philo and Susie McArthur (Jerry) of Urbana, grandchildren, Ann Case (Bob) of Tolono, David Reinhart (Chris) of Mt. Holly, NC, Mary Jo Reinhart (Roberto Spitale of Sosua, Dominican Republic, Amy Fleshner (Chris-deceased) of Savoy, Joel McArthur (Bonnie) of Champaign, Stacey Goad (Craig) of Champaign and Jason McArthur of Savoy, great grandchildren, Amelia and Lydia Case, Lyndsay, Lauryn and Jake McArthur, Alex Corry, Abby and Emily Goad and Samuel, Samara and Samson McArthur. She is preceded in death by her husband, parents and a grandson-in-law.

Mary was a city girl who married the love of her life and moved to the farm. The neighbors said she wouldn’t stay. She became a loving wife, mother, grandmother and oma, and settled into farm life with no regrets.

As the years passed she became the caregiver for several relatives and her own mother. Mary was a great cook and loved sharing her dishes with others. She volunteered at St. Patrick’s Church, first helping with wedding receptions and other activities.

She especially enjoyed helping with Masses at the Champaign County Nursing Home even into her 90’s. She was a long- time member of the Somer Home Extension. She, and a group of friends spent many evenings painting ceramics.
