Mary Virginia Shorty Pitman Mace , July 06, 1939 — September 09, 2018

Mrs, Mary Virginia Mace, age 79, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, September 9, 2018 at Mission Health in Asheville. Mary was born in Mitchell County on July 6, 1939 to the late Will Pitman and Etta Ward Pitman. She was a charter member of Refuge Baptist Church where she sang in the choir and often sang solo.

Singing was such a big part of her life and she enjoyed it immensely. Mary worked for many years at Marion Manufacturing but decided to join her husband in running their mobile home park, a job she continued to do up to the present. She simply loved nothing better than to be with her husband and family who she loved more than anything.

A hard working woman, she was always doing for others. She was sought out for advice because of her level headed approach and it could be said that she was the very essence of the Virtuous Woman described in Proverbs 31. In addition to her parents, who she lost at an early age, she was preceded in death by her daughter-in-law, Jeanette “Robin” Mace.

She leaves behind her beloved husband of 63 years, John Mace, of the home; her son, Johnny Roger Mace; her sister, Ruth Buchanan of Mitchell County; two grandsons, John Curtis Mace and wife Bonita and John Christopher Mace and wife Sheree; and five great-grandchildren, Jacob Walker, Tyler Mace, Kasey Mace, Maddie Mace, and Cameron Mace. A service of remembrance and celebration of her life will be held on Wednesday, September 12, 2018 at 3:00 p.m. at Refuge Baptist Church with Rev. Ronnie Gentry and Rev.

David Edwards officiating. The family will receive friends from 2:00 – 3:00 p.m. prior to the service at the church. Burial will follow in the Mace Cemetery.
