Mrs. Mary I. (Hays) Kriner Kerlin, 97, formerly of N. Ridge Avenue, Greencastle, PA passed away Thursday, January 31, 2019 in The Shook Home, Chambersburg, PA were she had resided for the past eight years. Born June 5, 1921 in Greencastle, she was the daughter of the late Norman E. Hays and Mary Belle (Benchoff) Hays Runyon. Mrs. Kerlin attended Browns Mill School near Greencastle.
She and her late husband, Lawrence D. Kerlin, were married December 24, 1951 in Winchester, VA. Mr. Kerlin passed away December 27, 2003. In her early years Mrs. Kerlin worked as a waitress for several local area restaurants, then for the former Moller’s Organ Factory, Hagerstown, MD.
She and her husband owned and operated Kerlin’s Esso Station, on Route 16 West of town during the 1950’s. She also worked for Greencastle Packing and Fresh Express, Greencastle in the packing department for a number of years. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Greencastle; the VFW Ladies Auxiliary, Hagerstown; and the Franklin County Blind Association.
Mrs. Kerlin enjoyed reading and spending time with her family. She is survived by two daughters, Patricia Plasterer and her husband LeErin and Debra Hensley and her husband David both of, Greencastle; six grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and two step-great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband she is preceded in death by a brother, Charles E. Hays; a foster brother, Earl Shrader; an infant brother Robert; and an infant sister.
Services will be held 1:00 P.M., Tuesday, February 5, 2019 in the First United Methodist Church, 45 S. Washington Street, Greencastle, PA with Pastor Ryan Whisel officiating. Burial will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Greencastle, PA. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service Tuesday afternoon in the church.
