Marylin Carol Sicks, 72, of Searcy, Arkansas and Irmo, South Carolina passed away peacefully in her sleep Tuesday, March 5, 2019, with her husband by her side. She was born to the late Freemont and Lillian Hamilton December 9, 1946 in Ada, Oklahoma. Carol graduated from Wapanucka High School in Wapanucka, Oklahoma in 1963 at the age of 16, received a BA in Education and Music from Southeastern State University in Durant, Oklahoma in 1967, and her MA in Administration and Supervision from Central Missouri State in the early 1970’s.
Carol married Larry Sicks in 1967, and they lived together in Missouri for seventeen years before relocating to Searcy, Arkansas for 35 years. She and her husband recently moved to Irmo, South Carolina to be closer to her son. Carol is survived by two children: Tia Cook, of Searcy; and Tracy Sicks, of Irmo; along with their spouses Mike Cook, of Searcy; and Laura Sicks, of Irmo.
She is also survived by ten grandchildren: Jackson James, Lily James, Kate James, Olivia Etheridge, Kylie Sicks, Katelyn Sicks, Isaac Sicks, Zoey Sicks, Madison Cole, her husband Blake Cole; and one great-granddaughter, Emriella Cole. Carol had the heart of hearts. She loved music, and she loved people.
She would sing and play hymns on the piano every day whether at home, at school, or in church. The melodies and chords of the songs brought her comfort and filled the lives of those around her with the same peace and assurance of Jesus in which she sang. Her voice and her hymns will be so very missed.
Carol’s passion for people was all encompassing and unequivocal. Every person she came in contact with was changed in some way for the better. Carol poured her heart and soul into showing others, whether her family, her friends, her teachers and staff, her students, or complete strangers, they were valuable and special and worthy.
She led by example, listened completely and without judgement, spoke with well thought out conviction and acceptance, loved unconditionally, and sacrificed of herself without reserve. Although she was not famous across the whole world like Mother Teresa or Princess Diana, Carol’s accomplishments in the betterment of the lives of so many ranks right alongside them. For those who had the distinct honor of knowing her, they are overwhelmingly aware they had the privilege of doing life with one of the greatest women who lived.
She will be forever remembered by saying, “My people…”. because we were all “her” people. Visitation will be Sunday from 1:30 until 2:30 p.m. at St. Paul United Methodist Church in Searcy.
Funeral services will start at 2:30. Memorials may be made to the National Military Family Association at 3601 Eisenhower Ave. , Suite 425, Alexandria, VA, 22304.
