Master Charles Cannon March 14, 1945 – January 24, 2019 Share this obituary Sign Guestbook| View Guest Book Entries Charles Cannon, born on March 14, 1945 in Syracuse, New York, passed away peacefully in his home on January 24 6:08 AM Eastern Time at the age of 73. He is survived by two sisters, Maria McMullen and Carol Anne McIntosh. In 1970, while still in his early twenties, he became a close Western disciple of Paramahansa Muktananda, one of the most well-known and highly acknowledged Eastern mystics of the modern era.
From 1970 to 1982, he was extensively trained in orthodox Vedic/Tantric philosophical contexts and in 1977 was ordained a monk of the Vedic Order of Sannyasins, the oldest existing monastic order in the world today. His monastic name was His Holiness Swami Vivekananda Saraswati. His teacher named him Master Charles, to acknowledge his proven abilities as a master spiritual teacher, able to teach without words.
Master spiritual teachers are recognized by their powerful, personal presence, which empowers those in their physical proximity. Master Charles founded the Synchronicity Foundation for Modern Spirituality in 1983, headquartered in Faber, Virginia. He developed High-Tech Meditation, transmitted through a series of brain-balancing audio meditation programs, offered regular retreat intensives at the Virginia facility attended by associates from many countries, provided personal mentoring, and taught The Holistic Lifestyle to audiences around the world.
He especially enjoyed his many trips to Mexico and the open-hearted nature of his followers there. Master Charles authored many books, produced years of inspirational television broadcasts, and became an acknowledged pioneer of modern spirituality for the evolution of human consciousness. Master Charles and Synchronicity associates inspired world audiences in 2008 by expressing forgiveness rather than condemnation towards the terrorists who injured four and murdered two of their group during the Mumbai terrorist attack.
After their rescue, Master Charles and Synchronicity colleague Kia Scherr created One Life Alliance, a not-for-profit organization dedicated to honoring the sacredness of life. Jungian analyst Marita Digney wrote: “Like the archetypal hero, Master Charles has encountered the depths and heights of his own being. He has returned from the journey a true Master, whose expanded presence is a catalyst for those lucky enough to meditate with him”.
One of his students said, “Prior to meeting Master Charles, I had only read, with envy and amazement, about the mystical experience. Being with Master Charles brought it within my reach”. In his final words to followers who traveled to be with him during his final days, Master Charles said: “Never forget that you are here to learn how to love”.
A memorial service to celebrate the remarkable life of Master Charles Cannon will be scheduled in the near future, live streamed to his many followers around the world. For information about the ongoing work of the Synchronicity Foundation, visit synchronicity.org.
