Obituary for Matthew Wayne Betz Matthew Wayne Betz, of Saline, went home to be with his Lord on Thursday, October 25, 2018. He was 90 years old. Born February 14, 1928, in Columbus, Ohio, he was the son of Matthew John and Lillie Bertha (Diehl) Betz.

In high school, he was a talented athlete excelling in track. He served his country in the United States Army as part of the post-occupation forces after World War II. Following his discharge from the military, he worked as a shorthand recorder, before starting his own business in Detroit.

He married his beloved wife Carolyn Hesselbein in 1954, and together they raised four children. Matthew loved music. He enjoyed reading, bowling, gardening, and golf.

Above all, he loved his family and his God and instilled that faith in his family. Matthew is survived by his children, Janet Tailford (Michael), Ann Higgins (Larry), David Betz (Suzanne) and Mark Betz (Carrie); as well as 8 grandchildren: Alissa Durbin, Evan Tailford, Amy McCalla, Kelly Allgeier, Lydia Betz, Madeline Betz, Ella Betz and Levi Betz; and 3 great-grandchildren Kameryn Durbin, Henry Allgeier and Andrew McCalla. He was preceded in death by his wife Carolyn Betz and one brother, Paul R. Betz.
