Mavis N. Erickson, 88, of Sherrard, died peacefully Wednesday, October 10, 2018, at Aledo Rehabilitation and Health Care Center, surrounded by her family, on what would have been her 60th wedding anniversary. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, October 16, 2018, at the Community Presbyterian Church of Sherrard. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Monday, at Kirk, Huggins & Esterdahl Funeral Home, Ltd., Orion.

Burial will be at the Sherrard Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Sherrard Library. Mavis was born on February 16, 1930, in Sherrard, the daughter of Henry and Myrtle (Wilson) Nichol.

She married Clyde K. Erickson on October 10, 1958, in Sherrard. He preceded her in death on December 21, 1988. Her passion was raising and nurturing her family.

Mavis previously delivered the Quad City Times newspaper in the Sherrard area. Mavis was a member of the Community Presbyterian Church of Sherrard. When her children were in school, Mavis was an active member of the Sherrard community; volunteering as scout leader, the PTA, and a Sherrard High School Band Booster.

She also volunteered at the Sherrard Library and food pantry. Mavis loved spending time with her friends in The Red Hat Society of Sherrard, watching NASCAR races, and going to the local dirt track races. She also enjoyed boating and camping with her family.

She loved attending her grandchildren’s events and was one of their biggest fans. Survivors include her children, Bruce (Linda R.) Breiby, Sherrard, Linda L. Breiby, Sherrard, Brian (Sue) Breiby, Sherrard, Eric (Lisa) Erickson, Andalusia, Denise (Clay) Sewell, Aurora, IL, and Beth (Dan) Parker, Andalusia; 15 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren; brother, Keith (Beth) Nichol, Nicholasville, KY. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and a granddaughter.
