Maxine Knight Burkhardt, age 95, entered into Heaven on Monday, Sep 3, 2018. She was born in Guntersville, AL on Nov 4, 1922. The family will receive friends from 1:30-3:30 pm on Thursday, Sep 6 at Lawrence Brown – Service Funeral Home, followed by graveside service at 4:00 pm at New Live Oak Cemetery.

Mrs. Burkhardt was preceded in death by her husband Herman H. Burkhardt in 2007. Maxine is survived by sons Charles Henry (Charlotte) Burkhardt of Birmingham, AL, Robert Knight (Deanna) Burkhardt of Kennesaw, GA, daughter Susan Burkhardt (Bob) Seitz of Lilburn, GA; six grandchildren, Chad and Heather Burkhardt of Denver, CO, Katy (Burkhardt) and Jamie Haley of Helena, AL, Jonathan and April Burkhardt of Dallas, GA, Michael and Cristal Burkhardt of Dallas, GA, Brian and Sarah Burkhardt of Dallas, GA, Taylor Seitz of Dunwoody, GA; and thirteen great-grandchildren. Maxine’s love and care for children was evident in how she spent most of her years while living in Selma.

She began teaching at Leika’s Kindergarten in 1958 and continued there for 37 years. She then “retired” to work at West End Baptist Church Day Care. On most Sunday mornings she would be found in the children’s department at her church beginning with Church Street United Methodist Church, then First Independent Protestant Church, and finally at Crescent Hill Presbyterian Church.
