Obituary for Melbourne French Dinkins Melbourne French Dinkins Bradley, AR Funeral services for Mr. Melbourne French “Mr. Mel” Dinkins, age 94, will be held at 10:00 am on Thursday, December 20, 2018, at Bradley Baptist Church, Bradley, AR. with Rev. Toby Talley officiating assisted by Rev.
Chester Coffman. Interment will follow in Walnut Hill Cemetery, Bradley, AR under the direction of Bailey Funeral Home, Springhill, LA. Visitation will be held at Bradley Baptist Church from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Wednesday, December 19, 2018.
Mr. Dinkins was born on October 26, 1924 to Eugene Sanderson and Maude Pearl Lane Dinkins in Bradley, AR and passed away on Tuesday, December 18, 2018 at his residence in Bradley, AR. He was a lifelong resident of Bradley and held the longest membership in Bradley Baptist Church. He was a faithful member of the Adult Men’s Sunday School Class and had served Bradley Baptist Church as a Deacon, Sunday School Secretary and on the Maintenance and Grounds Committee, which he took very seriously.
For many years he changed light bulbs and a/c filters, knowing exactly how many were in the buildings. He also served on the Finance and Hospitality Committees. He was a retired Printing Press Operator from International Paper Co. Container Division after 39 years of service.
Mr. Dinkins was a proud U.S. Marine serving in WWII. He was assigned to active duty on October 15, 1943 and served in the Pacific area from 1945 till August 1946, including on Guam and the occupation of China from January 1946 till July 1946. He was extremely honored to be able to travel on two Heroes Flights to Washington, D.C.
He is survived by his daughter, Melba Rose (Danny) Cannon of Bradley, AR; son, Ralph Edgar “Eddie” (Pam) Dinkins of Taylor, AR; four granddaughters, Heather (Jason) Dodd of Benton, AR, Michalee (Jim) Gore of Maumelle, AR, Kristen (Corey) Bird of Marshall, TX, Amber (Brodie) Ward of Maumelle, AR; eight great-grandchildren, Breann Bird, Scout Gore, Cannon Bird, Brick Gore, Hattie Gore, Blaize Ward, Jake Dodd, Layla Ward; and a great-great grandson, Parker Carrasco; special nephew, David (Donna) Allen and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Dad was blessed with an awesome, dedicated and loving caregiver, who became part of our family, Tracy Burford. Mr. Dinkins was preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife of 44 yrs.

He was the last of the Dinkins siblings; two sisters, Nora Phillips and Bessie Allen; ten brothers, Clifton Dinkins, Edwin “Ted” Dinkins, Wesley “Bill” Dinkins, Edward “Slim” Dinkins, Aubrey “PeeWee” Dinkins, Cecil “Buck” Dinkins, Rev. Leroy Dinkins, John “J.P.” Dinkins, Merle “M.O.” Dinkins and Arvil Dinkins.
Pallbearers will be great-grandsons, Cannon Bird and Brick Gore; grandsons-in-law, Jason Dodd, Jim Gore, Corey Bird and Brodie Ward. Honorary pallbearers will be special friends, Tom Brackman, Roy Rogers, Travis Gore, and the Adult Men’s Sunday School Class. We want to extend our special thanks to Dr. Michelle Pardue, Donna Morris, Heidi, Dusti, Stevie, Anita, Mary, Jeanie, Ashley, Debra, Cindy, Amanda, Cherie, Donna and Susan at Springhill Medical Center.
