Melvin Leo Greenwalt of Steelville, Missouri passed away Saturday, March 31, 2018 in St. Louis at the age of 81 years. He was born March 6, 1937 in Wesco, Missouri to Roy and Marie Howdeshell Greenwalt. In 1956 at the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, he was united in marriage to Ada Turner and to this union two sons were born.

Melvin served his country honorably in the U.S. Army. During Melvin’s life he was blessed to have worked at Chevrolet in St. Louis after the Army, Peterson’s Oil Company in Sullivan, Steelville Schools as a bus driver, Cuba Schools and then retiring from Poly Systems in Steelville after thirteen years. He was a member of the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church.

Melvin always enjoyed working in his garden and loved to fish when his health permitted. He was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Matt Watson; two brothers, Leland and Calvin Greenwalt; and one sister, Charlotte Payne. Melvin is survived by his wife of sixty-two years, Ada Greenwalt of Steelville, MO; two sons, Robert Wayne Greenwalt of Springfield, MO and Rodney Lee Greenwalt and wife Tracy of Cuba, MO; five grandchildren, Becky Greenwalt and husband Jeremy, Jennifer Lorraine and husband Mark, Adam Thomas and wife Michelle, Jeremy Watson and wife Bri and Asia Judd; fifteen great-grandchildren; three brothers, Henry Howdeshell and wife Sharon of Cherryville, MO, Larry Howdeshell and wife Dottie of St. James, MO and Gary Howdeshell and wife Debbie of St. Joe, MO; one sister, Sheila Howdeshell of OK; brothers and sisters-in-law, Bob Turner and wife Peggy, Buford Turner and wife Lily, George Turner and wife Judy, Elsie Stites, Charles Turner and Liz Wynn; other relatives and friends.

Memorial services were held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 3, 2018 at the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Steelville, MO with Rev. Don Wissmann officiating. Special music of “I Believe” was sung by Becky Giallongo with Rosemary Callahan on piano.

“What a Day That Will Be” was sung by Becky Giallongo and Lois Wissmann with Iris Moreland on piano. Music of “Old Rugged Cross” and “In the Garden” was played by Rosemary Callahan. Memories were shared by some members of the congregation.

The Family was served by the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville, MO.
