Melvin Paul Oestmann, lifelong Cushing area resident, passed away early Sunday morning, April 15, 2018 at his home at the age of 91 years. The son of the late Arthur D. Oestmann and Ida Wolff Oestmann, Melvin was born on November 1, 1926 in Avery, Oklahoma and was raised and educated in Avery. He was united in marriage to Dorothy Marie Gerfen on June 1, 1946 and to this union two children, Melvina and Ron were born.

Prior to Dorothy’s death, November 25, 2016, the couple had celebrated… Read More » over 70 years of marriage. Melvin had been a farmer and rancher all of his life. While ranching, he raised and sold cattle, providing beef for many families.

For many years Melvin and Dorothy, John and Lou Peterman, and Carl and Linda Tarver owned and operated the Top Auction Company. Melvin was very active in the Gideon’s International, having helped distribute Bibles to hotels, schools and hospitals. Melvin loved his family, enjoyed the fellowship of family and friends at reunions, and at church.

He enjoyed going to the Cushing Senior Citizen Center, belonging to the Resthome Playboys Band, where he enjoyed singing and playing his fiddle. He will be remembered for his story telling and the fact that he never ever met a stranger. Surviving include his daughter, Melvina Clinton of Tulsa; his son, Ron Oestmann of Tulsa; one grandson, Chris Clinton of Tulsa; sister, Nelda Johnston and husband, Willard, of Tulsa; one brother, Arthur Oestmann and his wife, Nan, of Midland Texas; several nieces, nephews and other relatives, including his special caregivers of the last 16 months, Janice (Sam) Miller, Kerie Roebuck, Stefanie Price and Kristy Gaskins.

In addition to his parents and wife, Melvin was preceded in death by his son-in-law Phillip Clinton. Funeral services will be Thursday, April 19, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. in the Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer with Reverend W.R. Rains officiating. Burial will follow in the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery.

The family will greet friends on Wednesday April 18, from 4:00-6:00 p.m. in the Floyd Family Center. Memorial contributions may be made to the Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer, 730 E. Cherry, Cushing, or to the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery Fund, 352025 E 780 Road Cushing.
