OBITUARY Michele “Mike” Sipala November 20, 1928 – September 2, 2018 Michele “Mike” Sipala, 89, of East Hartford, beloved husband of Santina (Cavaliere) Sipala, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Sunday, September 2, 2018. Mike was born on November 20, 1928 in Canicattini Bagni, Sicily and was the son of the late Santo and Maria (Ficara) Sipala. Mike worked in the construction field as a master mason.

He also enjoyed being a member of the Canicattinese Society of Hartford. Mike was a very strong willed man, and he worked hard to provide the American dream for his family. Being the patriarch of his family gave him great pride, which he took seriously and his family meant everything to him.

In addition to wife of 60 years, Mike will be greatly missed by his daughter, Maria Cafro and husband Scott of South Windsor and his beloved grandchildren, Michael Cafro and Elizabeth Johnson of MA and Laura Cafro of NYC. He will also be dearly missed by his brother, Salvatore Sipala and wife Beverly of Rocky Hill, who were always by his side; his brother-in-law who was like a brother to him, Giuseppe Cavalieri and wife Lucia of Bridgeport; his sister-in-law, Maria Cavaliere of Italy, as well as his many nieces and nephews, both here and in Italy, his many friends and his sister, Josephine Marino. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday (September 6) at 11 a.m. at St. Mary’s Church, 15 Maplewood Ave.

, East Hartford. Everyone is asked to please go directly to the church. Entombment will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Hartford.

The family will receive relatives and friends on Wednesday (September 5) from 4-7 p.m. at the D’Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Blvd. , Wethersfield. Donations in Mike’s memory may be made to the Saint Francis Hospital Oncology Unit, 114 Woodland Street, Hartford, CT 06105.
