Obituary for Mildred Josephine Scrimshire Karraker Mildred Karraker of Arlington passed away Monday, April 23, 2018. She was 97. Mildred Josephine was born December 12, 1920, in Willow, Dallas County, Arkansas, on her parents’ farm.

She was the second girl child of Joe Allen Scrimshire and Lucinda Isabella Goza. Her older sister lived only four days, so Mildred was the oldest surviving daughter of a family of twelve children. With so many brothers and sisters, she had many responsibilities including sewing clothing for the family by the time she was ten years old.

Her younger sisters considered her their second mother. The skills she learned on the farm led her in later life to become an expert seamstress and quilter. Mildred was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church, P.E.O. and was an active member of Arlington Woman’s Club since 1962.

She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend who will be missed by all who knew her. Mildred was preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Lucy, her husbands, Coye William Thomerson and William Jacob Karraker, and her seven brothers. Survivors: She is survived by her daughter, Linda Price of Arlington; granddaughters, Kara Holloway and husband Jonathan, Lori Ross and husband Richard; great-granddaughters Madeleine and Olivia Holloway and Riley Ross; sisters, Aniece Fugitt, Janet Ducote, Joe Ann Morris and Melba Peters.
