Mildred P. Braun age 106, of Ashland, passed away Monday, July 23, 2018 at Lutheran Village of Ashland. Mildred was born to Clarence and Rose Fogell on April 29, 1912, at their home on Orange Hill in Ashland. She grew up on a farm with her parents; brother, Paul Fogell; and sister, Dorothy (n’ee Fogell) Valentine.

She attended Riddle one- room school and graduated from Ashland High School in 1930. Mildred started working at A.L. Garber Co. in 1930 as a monotype keyboard operator and set type. She also worked at Ad Art Typographers, retiring in 1975.

After retiring, she worked part time for Barrett’s Office Supply and Woolworths. Mildred married Carl T. Braun on June 9, 1945 in the home of Pastor Kinsey. In 1951, they moved to their own farm in Orange Township where she lived until coming to Lutheran Village in September 2012.

In 1933, Mildred traveled by train to the Chicago World Fair. She enjoyed going to the beach, camping, and going to the Chippewa Lake with her girlfriends. After her and Carl married, they traveled to Niagra Falls, Washington D.C., and Mammoth Cave, Kentucky.

Mildred has a son, Doyle and daughter in-law Shirley. Her grandchildren are Michelle Pinkney Amos and Brian (Deanna) Pinkney. Her great- grandchildren are Daniel, Rachel and Miah Amos and Freya and Breanna Pinkney.

Her great- great- grandchildren are Ember Blythe, Brooklynn Amos and Layla Jane Amos. Mildred was preceded in death by her husband, Carl T. Braun in December 1983; her parents; sister, Dorothy Valentine; and brother, Paul Fogell. Since she was 12 years old, Mildred had been a member of First Church of the Brethren.

She was a nursery attendant, belonged to the Women’s Association, prepared quilts and basket weaving. Mildred was a member of the Senior Citizens Center where she took bus trips to the Smoky Mountains and Lancaster, Pennsylvania, made quilts and attended the swiss steak dinners. She was active in the Katotawa Community Club as Treasurer, attending the fox hunts and dinners.

One on Mildred’s great loves was traveling with her family to Disney World and the beaches of the Carolinas. She flew out west to see the Grand Canyon, Hoover Dam, Yellowstone National Park and The Grand Tetons. At age 93, she enjoyed her first cruise to Key West and the Bahamas.

Mildred was a blessing to all who met her. She was very easy going and a pleasure to be around. Going for rides and visits with family and friends were always very special to Mildred.

At Lutheran Village she enjoyed playing bingo and the musical programs. A Celebration of Life service will be held at the First Church of the Brethren at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, July 28, 2018 with Pastor Tina Hunt officiating. Friends may visit with the family on Friday, July 27, 2018 at Heyl Funeral Home from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. and also on Saturday from 10: 00 A.M. till service time at the church.

Burial will be in Red Haw Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Mildred’s memory to the First Church of the Brethren 122 E. 3rd St. Ashland, Ohio 44805.
