Monroe Porter, 81, affectionately known as “Mon” by family, was born on August 9, 1937 in Somerville, Tennessee to the union of Doc Porter and Louella Brewer Porter. He was proceeded in death by his parents, daughter Brenda, three brothers; Raymond Porter, Robert Porter, and James Porter, sister Pricella Jones. Monroe was educated in the public schools of Fayette County High School in Somerville, Tennessee.

He was part of the boys’ basketball and football team. After leaving school he moved to Kansas City in 1957. He was employed by B&C Maintenance Cameo Photo and Associate Photo where he worked as a film processor for 30 years upon retiring in 2002.

Monroe accepted Christ at an early age at Alexander Baptist Church in Somerville, Tennessee. Monroe joined Mt. Vernon Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend E.A. Johnson where he was called to the board of Deacons and worked faithfully until his health failed.

Deacon Monroe was known for his love to his family and his church. You could always see the red trucks in the parking lot. He was a dedicated Deacon, Husband, Father, Grandfather, and friend.

He will be missed. Deacon Porter answered the masters call on Sunday morning December 16, 2018. He leaves behind to cherish his memories, his wife Katherine of 59 years, one son Anthony Porter, two daughters Tammie Porter and Chandra Porter; 16 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren; 1 sister Georgia Odom (Joe) of Kansas City; 1 brother Joe Porter of Memphis, Tennessee; Sister in law Vivian Porter, Brother in Law James Phillips; Extended Family, The Taylors, Henderson’s and extended son Eric Williams and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, December 22, 2018 at Mt. Vernon Baptist Church 39935 Prospect Kansas City, Missouri.
