Obituary of N. Thomas “Tom” Whittington N. Thomas Whittington, Jr, 89, of Salisbury, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 7, 2018. He was born April 1, 1929 to the late Norman Thomas Whittington, Sr. and Golda Bradley Whittington of Marion Station. Tom attended Marion High School and graduated from Staunton Military Academy in 1947.

Upon his graduation, he attended University of Maryland in College Park where he received his bachelors of science degree in 1951 and was a member of ROTC. During his time at college, he met his future wife Wanda Lou Beer. In 1951, Tom entered into the United States Airforce, where stationed in Nouasseur Air Base in Casablanca, Morocco during the Korean War and where Tom and Lou began their married life.

Following his time in the Air Force, they returned to Marion Station, and Tom joined his father in the family business, Whittington Farms, Inc., which later consolidated with Chesapeake Farms, Inc. Tom became the Vice President at Chesapeake Farms in 1971. Following his retirement from Chesapeake Farms in 1973, Tom was employed as a business consultant in the seafood, agriculture, and timber industries in the following countries: Nevis, St. Kitts, Costa Rica, Panama, Guyana, Brazil, Belize, Nicaragua, Ireland, Austria, and Wales. He served as past president of the Eastern Shore Poultry Growers Exchange and Delmarva Poultry Industry, Inc. In addition, Tom was a member of the Board of Peninsula Bank and later chairman of the board, which later became Mercantile Bankshares Corp.

, where he also served on the board. He served as a member of the Board of Regents of University of Maryland and the Peninsula Medical Center. Tom was survived his wife of 67 years Lou Whittington, of Salisbury, two children, Sally Rankin and her husband John of Salisbury and Norman Whittington, III and his wife Kathy of Salisbury.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a sister Jean Bradley Scott and a brother Stephen Frank Whittington, who passed away in childhood. Services will be private. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made Tom’s honor to the Whittington Scholarship Fund, c/o CFES, 1324 Belmont Ave.
