Obituary for Nancy Lou Shaft Shaft, Nancy Lou (George) Saginaw, Michigan Passed away at her home on Monday, October 29, 2018. She was 82 years old. Nancy Lou George was born on July 25, 1936 in Saginaw to the late Frederick and Lucille (Hovis) George.

Nancy attended Holy Cross Lutheran School, and graduated from Arthur Hill High School in 1954. She then attended beauty school and worked as a beautician in the 1950’s. Nancy married Walter L. Shaft on March 10, 1956.

She then worked nights as a waitress at Mel’s Restaurant on South Michigan Ave. In the 1960’s she started working for Thomas O. Lohr, MD. Nancy worked as a medical assistant for over 36 years, until his retirement and then went on to work for Gregg L. McLean, MD, until she retired in 2008.

Nancy enjoyed working and spending time with the patients and really miss them after her retirement. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family and friends. Nancy loved a great shopping trip, working in her yard, doing crafts, and having a girl’s day out.

Nancy will be greatly missed by her children: Walter L. (Janice) Shaft Jr., Mark F. (Rene) Shaft, Ricky A. (Julie) Shaft and Christine L. (Jim) Cronkright; grandchildren: Joshua Shaft, Alicia (Lance) Wesolek, Jason Lemmer, Jennifer (Scott) Gries, Alec Shaft, Rachel Hoffman, Tyler and Kyle Cronkright; great grandchildren: Branden and Ryan Gries, Peyton Wesolek, Jayace Lemmer, Blake Gries and Barrett Wesolek; brother, Randy (Norma) George; sister, Myra (fiancé, Greg) Overly; special aunt, Dorothy Biegrent; dear friends, Carol Bittner and Jean Gottchaulk; special neighbors who called her “Grandma Nancy”, Chad and Jessica Taylor and their children: Hunter, Hayden and Makayla. Nancy is also survived by many cousins, nephews, nieces and many dear friends. Nancy was preceded in death by her husband, Walter L. Shaft Sr. in 2001; daughter, Louann Lemmer; sister-in-law, Josephine (Gilbert) Whittier; and her brother-in-law, Henry “Hank” Shaft.

SERVICE: A funeral for Nancy will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 3, 2018 at Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter Rd. (off State). Rev.

James Krueger will officiate with burial to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, Saginaw, MI. VISITATION: Family and friends are welcome to gather at the funeral home on Friday, November 2, 2018 from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and on Saturday, November 3, 2018 from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service. MEMORIALS: In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider a memorial contribution to the Saginaw Children’s Zoo.
