Natalie Denton July 05, 1929 – May 16, 2019 Share this obituary Send Flowers Sign Guestbook| Send Sympathy Card Mrs. Natalie Hornbeak Denton, 89, of Hornbeak, died May 16, 2019, at her home on Reelfoot Lake. She was born July 5, 1929, in Fulton, KY, to the late Ralph Glen and Sarah Virginia (Swiggart) Hornbeak. Soon thereafter they moved to Hornbeak, TN.

She married Samuel T. “Jack” Denton Jr. November, 14, 1948. He preceded her in death in 2010. Mrs. Denton was a devoted mother and loved to share her creativity and build relationships with people.

She enjoyed being a floral designer in Cleveland, MS, and Columbia, MO. She opened Natalie’s Sandpiper and The Country Mouse craft and picture framing shops in Poplar Bluff, MO, where she also taught painting classes. She was a graduate of Three Rivers Community College in Poplar Bluff, MO, where she received her RN degree in 1985.

She became director of Nursing at Royal Care nursing home in Ridgely, TN, bringing comfort to patients and training many nurses aids. In 1999, Natalie opened Acorn Point Lodge on Reelfoot Lake in TN, where she served her famous banana bread, sausage gravy and biscuits and treated her guests like family, making close relationships with many of them until she sold Acorn Point and retired in 2016. Survivors include her children, Samuel III (Mari) Denton of St. Louis, MO, Scott Denton of Poplar Bluff, MO, Tracye (Ralph) Butler of Murfreesboro, TN, and Steven Denton of Hornbeak; eight grandchildren, S. Thomas Denton IV (Elizabeth) of Oakland, CA, Benjamin Denton and Brenda Denton, both of St. Louis, Raleigh Butler and Rory Butler, both of Murfreesboro, and Andrea Denton, Alesya Denton and V. Joseph Denton, all of St. Louis; and special friends Dewayne and Judy Haggard of Tiptonville.

Mrs. Denton was preceded in death by her husband Samuel T. “Jack” Denton Jr., and grandson, Ross Butler. Memorial services will be held at the Hornbeak United Methodist Church at 1:00 on May 31st. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Brent Tinnin Scholarship Fund-Three Rivers Comm.
