Nellie’s burial will be 10 a.m., Friday, April 27, 2018 at the Our Silent City Cemetery in Kellogg In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials to the Jasper County Animal Rescue League and Humane Society; memorials may be left at the funeral home. Memorials may also be mailed to the funeral home, please add, Attn: Hauersperger Family on the envelope. Nellie L. Appeldoorn Hauersperger, the daughter of Case and Mary Ellen Mortenson Appeldoorn was born on September 28, 1916 in Newton, Iowa.

On January 15, 1935, Nellie was united in marriage with Ed Hauersperger in Newton. She was a homemaker. Nellie had also worked as a waitress in Kellogg.

She had worked in the maintenance department at Midwest Manufacturing in Kellogg and Nellie had done wallpapering and painting. Nellie was a member of the Kellogg Garden Club. Nellie died on Friday, April 20, 2018, at the Newton Health Care Center in Newton.

She was 101. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Ed; two sisters, Ethelyne Verwers and Maxine Etter; and nephew, Terry Henning. Those left to cherish Nellie’s memory are her sister, LaVona (Bob) Forgey of Newton; nieces and nephews, Jerry (Carol) Verwers of Muscatine, Steve (Kim) Etter of Denver, Colorado and Lisa (Bill) Bingham of Chariton.
