On June 27th 2018, Nicholas Joseph Mastry III passed away after a courageous battle with ALS. Nick was born in Brooklyn, NY on March 11, 1947. His parents moved their young son to Syracuse, NY in 1951.

Nick attended St. John the Baptist High School and graduated from Syracuse University. Nick enjoyed a long successful career as an Insurance Professional which included President of Home Mutual Insurance Co. of Binghamton, NY from 1986 to 1997. While living in Binghamton, Nick also served as a board member on several community and insurance professional organizations.

In 2003 Nick and his wife Nancy moved to Vinton, VA where Nick worked for Donegal Ins. Group as southwest marketing supervisor. After retirement Nick continued to work as an insurance consultant.

Nick was a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose Vinton Lodge #1121 & served as past Treasurer. Nick had a great sense of humor and enjoyed telling a joke to his family and friends. Nick was an avid SU sports fan.

Nick enjoyed spending time with Nancy taking her for rides in his corvette, attending movies and theater or simply spending a quiet evening at home. Nick was predeceased by his parents Nicholas in 2016 & Nicolina in 2005. Nick leaves behind his loving wife of 15 years, Nancy (Punako), daughter Melissa (Brian) Lewis, son Christopher Mastry and daughter Nicole Truslow, grandchildren Mariah Lewis, Ethan and Emma Truslow and Brayden Mastry.

Also left to cherish Nick’s memory his sister Angela (August) Pennacchia and several nieces and nephews. Throughout the years Nick enjoyed many long lasting friendships. Nick was comforted by his special canine companion Nina.

A funeral mass will be held on Thursday July 12 at 10 am at St. James Catholic Church in Johnson City, NY The family will receive friends during calling hours at J.F. Rice Funeral home on Wednesday July 11th from 6 to 8pm. In lieu of flowers donations in Nick’s memory may be sent to Angels of Assisi, 415 Campbell Avenue S.W. Roanoke VA 24016 or the ALS Assoc.
