Nicholasa S. Barbosa (nee Sepeda) “Nickie”, age 76, passed away on Thursday, May 10, 2018 at the Joliet Area Community Hospice Home, with her loving family by her side. Nickie is survived by her loving husband, Pedro “Pete” Barbosa; children, Sandra (William) Lopez, Virginia Barbosa and Patricia (Chris) Tsaliangos; grandchildren, Valerie (Miguel) Del Toro, Benjamin R. (Guadalupe) Esquivel Sr., Sara Lynn Aguirre, Alexander (Brianna) Lopez, Nicole Hardyman, Adam (Jessica) Lopez, Adriana Sanchez, Marissa Cerda, Teresa (Jason) Eggman and Victoria (Danny) Dutkiewicz; 25 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; sister, Angela (Anthony) Tamayo; brother, Alfonso (Anita) Sepeda; special cousin, Mary Dolores “Lola” Lopez; numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her daughter, Rachel Ann Esquivel; granddaughter in infancy, Priscilla Esquivel; parents, Manuel A. Sepeda Sr. and Juana Mirelez; siblings, Catherine Gonzalez, Frances Garcia, Manuel Sepeda Jr., Carmen Dennis, Mary Lou Carreno; and two siblings in infancy, Alfonso and Joseph Sepeda.

Nickie was a lifelong resident of Joliet, IL. She was a dedicated parishioner at Mt. Carmel Catholic Church where she was named Woman of the Year.

Nickie was an extraordinary minister, a religious education catechist, and a cantor. She worked at Gompers Junior High as a teacher’s aide, and retired from BMO Harris Bank after dedicating over 30 years of service. She enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, jigsaw puzzles and was an exceptional seamstress.

Nickie was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great- grandmother. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff of Joliet Area Community Hospice.

A celebration of Nickie’s life will begin on Wednesday, May 16, 2018 with prayers in the funeral home chapel at 9:10 a.m. then driving in procession to Mt. Carmel Catholic Church (407 Irving St. Joliet, IL 60432) for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. Interment to follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
